All entries must be submitted by 11:59pm Pacific Time on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

Before you start, review the official rules.

I haven't seen any of these movies in their entirety (although I did embed "Paperman" earlier this month, but have now noticed the video has been made  private), but I have seen some of the trailers and read "the buzz" on most.  So, my entry into the contest is riddled with (mostly) educated guesses and a few favorites.  Here are my picks:

Original Song: 'Skyfall' - Skyfall
Original Screenplay: Zero Dark Thirty

Live Action Short: Henry
Makeup: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Adapted Screenplay: Life of Pi
Supporting Actress: Sally Field, Lincoln

Actor in a Leading Role: Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Actress in a Leading Role: Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook

After you fill out your choices, you'll get an email listing them.  I hope I don't get more spam because of it, but if I do...oh well.

Read the rest at Cinema Blend

Looks like I'm with them on half of the top category picks. I didn't check the rest of them at the site.

To be honest, I'm not that fussed. Never been a huge fan of the Oscars, at least not since I've quit going to the movies. I don't care about watching people pat themselves on the back and far too often, the best actor/movie isn't chosen for the award, but rather as a payback (for past snubs, perhaps?) or because of financial success or because the movie made some "edgy" political statement.

It would be hard for me to vote because I have not seen even one of the movies listed. I may have been to the movie theater more recently than you, Mike.....but not by much! The last few times I went I was disappointed. It seems you can see the most interesting parts in the trailers on the internet without having to go to the theater. I'd still rather read the book and just use my imagination.

Several reasons I haven't been to the theater: One, I really don't like crowds. Two, the tickets are overpriced, esp. for a first-run movie. Third, the snacks are way too expensive (I realize that's where most of the theater's profits come from, it still doesn't make it any easier to pay $2.50 for ten cents worth of soda or three bucks for a nickel's worth of popcorn, ditto for the candy, even though it's not marked up as much as the other two)

The main reason is in two parts, actually. First, there's not been many quality movies produced. So many decent movies (and some not-so-decent) remade. It's as if there's nothing original coming out of Hollywood anymore. The second part of my main reason is also in two parts, albeit them both similar. So many of the actors are liberal/progressive. Free country and all that, but it's when they get on their soap box and preach to we "peons" that pisses me off. Along the same lines, many of the movies have an agenda or point-of-view that's distorted the facts or out and out lie about them. Sometimes the movies, along with the actors, disparage where I live, how I believe or my religion. I see no need to subsidize them by going to the movies. No, I can always wait and rent the movie, limiting the money I send them or buy it in the bargain bin at WalMart.
