Thats too funny , quite a long tongue that cat has too , maybe its similar to us humans when we hear a kind of noise that can make us cringe ,mine was always the scratching of teachers nail or the chalk screeching on the blackboard, the cats reaction is its tongue slipping out.

I used to go to school with a girl who would let out a small scream when someone made that screeching sound on the blackboard. She said it made her feel faint and nauseous. About ten years after we graduated, I was reading a paper and some scientists had discovered that the blackboard sound is nearly identical to the one primates (monkeys, etc.) make as an alarm sound. I cut it out and always meant to send it to her but lost track. Her twin brother has a business here in town and a while back I mentioned her aversion to the sound and told him about the newspaper clipping and the study and he said he'd pass it along.

I was thinking the sound was similar to something the cat associated with eating, perhaps tearing open a pkg. of cat food or treats. I've seen dogs run into friend's kitchens when they ran the can opener b/c they opened up the dog food cans that way. My old cat was the same way, only I used a manual opener and as soon as the blade bit into the can of tuna and made that little "click", he'd come running and meowing.

Thanks for posting!
