Cantaloupe Cayenne Sorbet

I'd love to try this but I want someone else to make it for me! Plus, I haven't been able to find a good cantaloupe all season. They all taste like cardboard and are way too expensive to ultimately just throw away. They don't make fruit like they used to! Do you remember going to pick peaches fresh off the trees, Mike? I would love to have one of those sun-warmed peaches in my hand right now!

Texas blueberries are in season - and on sale - right now and I've sure been enjoying them, although they advertised 2/1 on them and when I went to the store the other day, they were from Canada. I started to go ahead and get some because I figured they weren't much different than those from Chile, the kind I buy in the offseason. I won't touch 'em from Mexico, them OR melons.

They've had some Texas cantaloupes on sale pretty cheap here lately, too. I bought a small melon a week or so ago and it was delicious and I ate it all in one day. Nearly killed me, but what a way to go!

I think tomatoes are just about the worst buy in the store, although sometimes I get the hothouse type that are on sale. Sheesh, a burger just ain't the same w/out a tomato slice on it, y'know?

I went with Ina and Bill and Joe Bill over by Wheeler once to pick peaches and on the way back, Jodie and I must have had a dozen peaches each, not counting the ones we ate at the orchard. It was quite a while before I wanted to eat another. It wasn't the tummy ache that was so bad,but the skin around my mouth irritated by the peach fuzz. I loved to go down to the cellar on a hot summer's day and get a jar of Mom's canned peaches. They ran out pretty quick and then I had to settle for tomatoes, but they were pretty darn good, too.

I remember going to pick peaches in Wheeler with Grandma and Grandpa Dedmon several times. I would love to have a jar of Mother's pickled peaches. Those were so delicious. Of course, I don't remember anything of hers that wasn't extra good.

There's a little aside in the video, a "private joke" that might have gone past anyone who isn't a fan of Chef John's. I've followed his blog since I got my own Blogger blog and subscribe to his YouTube channel (although they're pretty much the same except he has the ingredient list specifics in his blog) He puts cayenne in just about EVERYTHING, that's why he was joking at the first that he thought it was an homage...to him.

While not hateful, he leaves the best snarky comments in replies to people who have really stupid things to say...just like in this video where he says someone is going to say "That's a lot of sugar." Well, duh...it's a dessert. He also has the corniest analogies when telling the viewers they can alter the recipe by leaving certain spices out or substituting something else, no problem. "After all, you are the Elton John of your caramel flan."
