Tea Poll

I just participated in this poll on one of my sample sites.

(Click graphic for larger view)

I sat my cup of hot, strong, black tea down and clicked "No."

J/K I love a good cuppa.

Did you hear about the Indian chief who drank a hundred cups of hot tea?

They found him dead the next morning, drowned in his tea pee.

OK, that's old and I'm sure I've told it before on this blog, but I still find it amusing.

I wonder who has never had a cup of hot tea?  Gotta be a Mormon, reckon?

Best Oscar Movie

With the Oscars coming up, ABC News has come up with an NCAA basketball-type bracket which allows you to rank the best Oscar winners over the past 64 years.

Easy to do; hover over each entry with your cursor to see a synopsis of each movie, then click on one to send it on to the second round. Do one side, then go over to the other. (there will be more of the bracket and you'll need to scroll down to see all the choices)

There were only a few movies I had not seen and coincidentally enough, the very first choice I had to make was between two of them (Argo and The Artist). I went ahead and voted, not only because I had to in order to complete the first round, but I had read enough about both of those movies to make an informed choice.

Other choices were much more difficult to make, because I HAD seen both and loved each but had to make a choice. (such as Patton and Midnight Cowboy) Difficult decisions aside, it was a fun thing to do. The next round will begin Feb. 6th and I'm looking forward to continue voting and to eventually see which movie gets the most votes.

Vote For Bush!

I was reading an article about George and Laura Bush's daughter Jenna having a baby shower thrown for her by her TV co-workers, then noticed a "Which Bush is your favorite?" poll on the side, so I voted.  I know OF Billy Bush and the band Bush, but can't claim to have listened to the show of the former and couldn't name a tune by the latter.  Of course, I know about the two presidents Bush and knew about Jenna and her fraternal twin sister Barbara from the news stories* that came out when their father first became President.

I thought about the vote for a little bit, then went ahead and clicked on George W. Bush, what the heck.  I voted for him twice before, why not three times?  According to half of America, I'm responsible for the country's ills because I did vote for him the first two times.

*I remember a story about the Bush twins getting arrested twice for minor in possession (of alcohol) within a few weeks and not long after that, Jenna getting busted for trying to use a fake I.D. as so to buy alcohol. I remember making a joke at the time that the U.S. could probably reduce the deficit just by selling the twin's empties.

I Got a Kick Out of This

Checked my Google Reader a little while ago; most of the articles were uninteresting, so I hit the "Read All" button except for two Dallas Cowboy posts. One was from Blogging the Boys: The Bossness Of Dan Bailey. The article was about the phenomenal rookie place kicker for Dallas. He's already set several NFL rookie kicking records and will hopefully break the team record for most consecutive kicks made. From the website:

Dan Bailey is breaking records.

His 26 consecutive field goals this season is an NFL rookie record (the next best rookie mark is 14). His four game-winning kicks - defined by the NFL as kicks made with less than two minutes remaining in regulation or in overtime - are also a league rookie mark. And he tied an NFL rookie record with six field goals made in the Week 3 win against the Washington Redskins.

They had a poll on the site, asking the readers to vote for a nickname for Bailey.  Here are the options:

I voted for "Dan the Man", but as you can see,  "Steely Dan" was winning at the time I read the post. Now, I'm an avid Cowboys fan, but I also consider myself fairly knowledgeable about music trivia and while I love Steely Dan (esp. "Reelin' In The Years") I don't think it's an appropriate nickname for Bailey.

From the Steely Dan website FAQ:

With the core band recruited, Donald and Walter need a name for their group. Since both of them were avid readers of 1950's "Beat" literature, they decided to name the band "Steely Dan" after a dildo in William Burroughs' "Naked Lunch."

Yeah, that'd be a GREAT nickname. Uh huh. -snicker-

Worst Way to Die?

From one of my favorite sites, Do I Have to Choose One?

Although the blog's posts are infrequent, the polls are almost always funny/thought provoking/horrifying. The latest poll:

Looking through the list, I would have to say that falling, drowning and suffocating would be my choices for my own demise. They're relatively quick, unlike dehydration, torture and disease. Burning would be fairly quick, but I sure don't want to go out that way, such horrible pain.

Being eaten alive got my vote; it immediately reminded me of the eaten by pigs scene in Hannibal. (believe it or not, it seemed more graphic in the book)

Tornado Trivia

From today's Start Sampling poll:

I'm in the minority segment of the poll takers with my "Yes" answer. The number would be smaller if the question had been "Have you ever been IN a tornado?" and I would've been in that group, too. In fact, the question could have been plural, i.e. "Have you ever been in tornadoes?" and my answer would still have been "Yes". Each of my "in the tornado" experiences was terrifying, but also had humorous aspects that might make for an interesting story. (and I *might* write something about them sometime in the future)

The site also has daily trivia:

Again, my answer is with those in the minority. I'm fairly certain tornadoes don't normally travel at 90 or even 60 mph.

They move fast enough to make you swallow your gum, though.

New 7 Wonders of Nature

Didn't see a single place I've been, so I didn't vote. The photos are worth the visit, though.

Talk to the Animals

From Petside.com:

A new poll released by the Associated Press and Petside.com reveals that the majority of pet owners in the U.S. believe they can comprehend their pet's own language, and that their pet understands what they say as well. Read on to find out more!

I don't claim to know just exactly what the Beej says with every "meow", but I can tell when he's angry or impatient with me and it doesn't take Dr. Doolittle to figure out what he means when he's at the door meowing. (inside OR out)

Silly Presidential Poll

Classmates.com sent me a silly little poll so I gave them silly little answers.

Emmy Awards Poll

The most recent poll from StartSampling.

The results don't surprise me and are encouraging. Really, who would want to watch a bunch of Hollywood ultra-liberal elitists honor and congratulate each other?

Especially when the Dallas/Green Bay game was on another channel!

Blood Will Tell

The results of the "What's Your Blood Type?" poll:

July 11, 2008

What's Your Blood, Bud?

This is a "bump" up because there's only seven days left in the poll. (in the right-hand column)

An article today in the local news feed in the right-hand column is about the Coffee Memorial Blood center and how it has helped over half a million people since it opened in 1948.

I used to "give" blood quite often; when I was in college, we used to sell it for ten bucks a pint. (and that always embarrassed my momma to no end for some reason, guess it was something she thought only winos did. We didn't spend the money on wine but instead spent it on gasoline, admission to Palo Duro Canyon, movies, beer and pot. Young and dumb, what can I say? )

We used to race each other to see who could finish first.

Photobucket

I remember one guy in our unit, Floyd from Dalhart. He found out we were going to give blood one day and wanted to come along and make ten dollars, too. The first-time donors have to fill out a questionnaire which asked what sort of diseases one might have had such as syphillis, gonorrhea... the usual STDs, along with TB and any other communicable diseases.

Floyd sat there filling out the form, scratching his head, when all of a sudden he put down his pencil and said "I'll just wait on you guys out in the car." I asked him what was wrong and he told me:

"Hell, I've had ALL of them things!"

They did away with paying for blood (although I think there's still a program that pays for serum) but I still gave. Instead of money, they gave you "insurance" for you and your immediate family in case you ever needed blood. (and I'm not sure if that particular program is still in place) The last time I donated was when I went back to school and it affected me as it never had before and I got very sick and nearly passed out.

I'm not sure they'd want my diabetic blood now, but if they would, I'd be willing to donate. I would have to pass on the OJ they hand out afterwards, though. It'd probably send me into a coma.

On the other hand, back in college, when we'd replace that pint of blood with a couple pints of beer, it'd almost put me into a coma then, too.

Last summer I wrote about and published some photos of the Coffee Center's Blood Bus.

You can read about the various blood types at Wiki.

This got me to thinking this might be a good topic for a new poll. Please, if you would, vote over in the right-hand column and tell us what is your blood type. I've already voted; I'm AB+, a fairly rare blood type.

I started to add "Alien" to the options, but I'm sure my ex-girlfriend doesn't visit this blog.

Blood Types & Personality

While looking at a post in an MSN Group about donating blood, I saw a post about a Japanese theory that claims one's blood type influences their personality.

From Wiki:

Japanese Blood Type Personality Chart

Type A
Best Traits: Earnest, creative, sensible, calm.
Worst Traits: Fastidious, overearnest.

Type B
Best Traits: Wild, a doer, cheerful.
Worst Traits: Selfish, irresponsible, arrogant.

Type AB
Best Traits: Cool, controlled, rational.
Worst Traits: Critical, indecisive.

Type O
Best Traits: Agreeable, sociable, an optimist.
Worst Traits: Vain, careless, ruthless.

Since I'm AB+, I'm pretty sure there's nothing to this by my own "best traits". I'd like to think I am cool and controlled, but rational???

Since you've read this far, why don't you tell us what YOUR blood type is in the poll in the right-hand column?

You can chime in on this post, or in the "What's Your Blood, Bud?" thread.

There's something green...

In my fridge, but I'm not sure if it's old meat or new cheese.

What Your Fridge Says About You

You don't need a lot of stuff to be happy. There isn't a greedy bone in your body.

You tend to be a fairly thrifty person. You splurge occasionally, but you're mostly a saver.

You don't tend to be a very adventurous person, but you do surprise everyone now and then. You have a bit of a wild side.

You try to be responsible, but you don't always succeed. Your heart is in the right place though.

You are likely to be an alcoholic.

The results say I'm an alcoholic only because there's nothing in my freezer but a couple of bottles of beer.

Poll Results

After I first put this in, I thought I'd probably have a zillion votes for "There's a best part?" but I was pleased to find that wasn't the case. (3 votes, and one was mine. Hey, I believe in being honest!)

I'm ending the poll a little early because I'd like to put in a semi-weekly (translated: "every now 'n then) one.

Thanks to all the folks who visit this pathetic excuse for a blog! Love to my friends, to hell with the rest of you!

Be Sure and Vote!

No, not in any upcoming primary election, it's much more important than that!

Please take the time to vote in the current ToTG poll in the right-hand column.

The choices are: (and you can pick more than one)

Mike's fantastic photos

Mike's sparkling wit

Mike's taste in music

There's a best part?

I like pie.

Breaking the Tie

From a poll at the Dallas Cowboys website

I cast the tiebreaker vote.

Which means I have doomed the Pats to a loss.

I'm horrible at handicapping ball games. I learned my lesson after losing an entire paycheck on the '78 Super Bowl.

UPDATE: Went back to the website (I visit it nearly every day) and voted again in the poll. (a proud Texas tradition, going all the way back to LBJ; "vote early, vote often")

I don't know why the site allows more than one vote, but it does, or seems to allow it. Be that as it may, it was really strange to see the updated results (regardless if my vote counted or not)

I'm wondering if the bookies are spamming the polls?

I'm not very good at these things (lost the paycheck, remember?) but I will predict a Pats win, 34-14.

Pizza Poll

I LOVE these Blogthings!

What Your Pizza Reveals

Your appetite is that of a sperm whale. You don't eat too much, unless a wheelbarrow is now considered a spoon.

You are a very ugly pizza eater. In fact, I bet you were called "Pizzaface" as a kid, weren't you?

You like food that's either raw or cooked. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods because you can't even SPELL "gourmet" much less know what it is.

You are selfish, picayune, and inconsiderate with your lovers.

You are an ill-bred insufferable jerk. You should consider suicide.

The stereotype that least fits you is human being. Your friends secretly agree.
