Dino Game

This is a game that's "supposed" to be able to be played on Chrome even while offline.  I just tried it and couldn't get it to work, but that doesn't mean anything...except that I am not able to follow simple directions, a distinct possibility. 

They provide the code to embed it, though; hit the space bar to start, also using it to jump over the cactus - use the down arrow to crouch.

No News Ain't Good News

I noticed the local Amarillo ABC affiliate news feed (in the right-hand column) wasn't working and I'm not sure how long it had been discontinued, but I don't think for much more than a few days before I discovered it.  I looked around the website to see if they had changed out their RSS feed, but it seems they had discontinued it and then went to the websites of the other Amarillo TV stations for a replacement, but neither of them offered a feed.

Oh well.  I'm sure people weren't flocking to this blog to read the Panhandle area news; after all, they don't flock here for any other reason, either.

I guess there IS some good news;  that's one less script to have to load when folks come here.

I love this site and have subscribed to it in my reader for several years.  Not all the daily offerings are something I'd use or want to try, but I have gotten some good free software from there.

I would caution anyone from going strictly by the ratings;  the site has had quite a few media converters and people really get their panties in a wad over that.  Instead, read the reviews because those are generally from the more knowledgeable users and there's usually several people who post free and sometimes better alternatives.

Not sure why these countdown timers/calendar scripts don't work in a post - I think they conflict with the calendar script at the top of the page. It WILL work in another column (probably because it's in a separate "wrapper") and there's a Cowboys training camp countdown just below the Cowboys module in the right-hand column.  I'll take it down when training camp starts - and *maybe* put up another for when the regular season starts. 

I hope I can then put up another one for when Dallas will be in the Super Bowl...and hope it will be this next one, but the way things have been going with the 'Boys...well, I'm not sure that much coding for that length of time would fit in a Blogger blog.

An explanation of Lunar Phases

Countries in the different hemispheres see the Moon from a completely different vantage point from each other. In the northern hemisphere the first quarter looks like a growing D, while in the southern hemisphere it looks like a C. In the northern hemisphere the last quarter looks like a C, while in the southern hemisphere looks like a D. 

A handy memonic device to figure out if the moon is waxing or waning in the Northern Hemisphere is by thinking "DOC" as to the current "shape".
